IN thinking about the audience yesterday, I am struck by how little resistance there was to the use of technology in a hybrid environment. The other thing that struck(?) me is there were only 2 case ____ people there. Everyone else was community college. listen

The community colleges,...

The community colleges, are throwing the needs in such large numbers that the room had more than 40 people interested in Hybrid teaching structure, K12 is falling sadly behind. listen

Hybrid Done Right

This follows up the presentation Dr. Rod and I prepared for today's TechEd '08 conference.

The audience was predominantly community college folk with a smattering of 4-year and the 2 courageous K-12 representees.

Presentation was well received.

Lisa shared the basic building blocks: the "rules" stuff college people need to know. Hybrid needs to supplement f2f time *meaningfully* not with bigger homework assignments!
I promised 3 things:
  • grouping techniques
  • examples of collaborative assignments in a CBM like Blackboard or Angel
  • my new found passion for the SMS possibilities and how they relate
In hindsight, I needed more time. My closing was meant to be a cell phone "American Idol" type of vote on the tools presented. We really didn't have enough time to authenticate all the accounts so we could SMS our votes.
AND- this crowd seemed like a deeper investigation into the types of assignments used for groups would have been useful.

In a second version:
  • grouping techniques
  • examples assignments for the different types of groups in Blackboard
  • different SMS tease
But man-o-man was this fun!
